Merry Christmas!
Thank you for the support you’ve shown my stories (and me) this year. Every time you read, a writer gets its wings—or something like that. In this newsletter I wanted to update you on my writing and personal life. Think of it as an e-Christmas card!
WRITING LIFE
This year has been a LOT of work. But next year, I think it will pay off:
-My first book, THREAD OF DREAMS, will be out in March and people will be reading it. This fact is still mind-blowing.
-I will have two books on submission with my agent (possibly three if she thinks another project is ready!) I have high hopes one of those manuscripts will be picked up, but I have learned to trust that God’s timing is best in all things. Including knowing when my words and heart are ready.
-Hopefully, I’ll be writing new projects. I have 5 unfinished manuscripts (ranging from Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult) in the works. But mostly I’ve been brushing off my old stories, reworking them, and handing them over to my agent as if she were my fairy godmother (she kind of is. A good agent is magical, and it’s been the best experience so far!)
-My writer friend, Rachel Lawrence, interviewed me recently, and you can read it HERE. Also make sure to subscribe to her newsletter. Rachel has a sweet contemporary romance novel coming soon! It’s the perfect beach read or the perfect I-wish-I-was-on-the-beach read.
PERSONAL LIFE
-Besides writing books, I’m a homeschooling mom to our two boys (5 & 7) and my husband works from home too! I couldn’t be more thankful that we’re able to raise our little family from the warmth of our home.
-We have been in Colorado over two years now, and are finally adjusting to such a different landscape and community. We started a small group in August and have really seen God’s hand in it.
-We’ve hiked more in the past two years than our entire lives—mostly, I love it. Being in beautiful nature has helped me really appreciate God's creation in a new light, like his majesty in the towering mountains and his eye for the artistic in the magpies and towhees. Now I’m on a mission to identify every bird and flower we see. I’m turning into my parents, what can I say.
-I’ve become a sourdough-baking fiend. I find the process relaxing and forces me to slow down in a fast-paced world. Also, my boys love a fresh loaf of bread. Win-win!
I’d love to hear how you and your family are doing this Christmas! Do you have any adventures or big things happening this year? Or are you hoping it’s quiet and cozy? Let me know by replying to this email :)
Keep seeking wonder,
Emily Barnett
